About me
Jennifer Guillen, an active leader in the CATESOL community and current Chapter Coordinator for the San Gabriel Valley (SGV) chapter, will be speaking at the CATESOL 2024 State Conference in Los Angeles. With a deep passion for empowering English language learners and bridging communities through civic engagement and digital literacies, Jennifer is dedicated to expanding opportunities for ESL educators and students. She has a wealth of experience teaching at multiple levels, from college classes to correctional facilities, and is a strong advocate for making ESL instruction accessible in diverse environments. Jennifer’s session will provide insights into the SGV chapter's initiatives, including upcoming programs that support ESL education and professional growth for educators, particularly in unique and underserved settings.
Upcoming initiatives include informational sessions on teaching abroad, with guest speakers such as recruiters and experienced educators offering guidance and insights for those interested in global teaching opportunities. Additionally, she’s organizing a panel event that connects educators who teach ESL in correctional facilities with those interested in this unique field, aiming to shed light on the challenges and rewards of teaching within jails and prisons. These underserved settings, where access to quality ESL education can be limited, represent a growing focus within SGV CATESOL, aligning with Jennifer's vision to bring ESL learning and support to all who need it.
