With rolling enrollment, unpredictable attendance and a vast disparity of prior academic success the instructor of a beginning-level English literacy class needs strategies. In the context of Adult Education, students are refugees, immigrants, college graduates, pre-literate in their first language, parents, employees, young and old. How can teachers meet the needs of such a diverse group? In an effort to be effective, equitable, and inclusive, teachers need varying strategies to address the variety of student needs.
