Specifically, English as a Second Language (ESL) learners face unique challenges in navigating civic engagement and digital literacy in their new communities. This presentation explores strategies to empower ESL students by enhancing their digital literacy skills and fostering active participation in civic life.

Join this session to learn more about the Refugee Concerns Interest Group (RC-IG). RC-IG coordinators will share accomplishments from the last year, brainstorm ideas for workshops, collaborations, and webinars for the upcoming year, and answer questions about how to get more involved so that you can 'lead from where you stand.'

Community Reading Groups embody civic learning through student-developed materials and active, student-centered participation in small group discussions based on readings. Working with peers and teacher, students select readings, compose discussion questions, lead & participate in discussions, build knowledge and vocabulary, increase confidence, and much more. Individuals equipped with CDL understand political and civic systems, allowing them to navigate these systems effectively and contribute meaningfully to the improvement of their communities.
